Our Developing Edinburgh series of events offer an insight into the changing face of our city. From transport updates, to construction and development plans, to City Deals, all from prominent business leaders, these events will ensure you are clued up on the great work going into Scotland’s capital.

In June we invite you to hear from SP Energy Networks at our latest Developing Edinburgh event.

SP Energy Networks own and operate the electricity transmission and distribution network across Central and Southern Scotland as well as Merseyside, Cheshire and North Wales. Operating 24/7, 365 days of the year delivering power to 3.5m homes and businesses. This is achieved through a network of overhead lines and underground cables. Employing a workforce of just under 3,000 staff deployed within engineering, field operations, technical specialists, customer service and support roles, all of whom are based across Scotland, England and Wales. To replace the entire network today would require an investment in excess of £18bn.

Ian Johnston joined, the South of Scotland Electricity Board in 1981 as a Graduate Engineer. Ian is currently the District General Manager responsible for Edinburgh and the Borders managing an annual budget in excess of £25m.

SP Energy Networks are a key stakeholder in facilitating Scotland’s transition to a Low Carbon Economy they we seek to deliver the energy that our heat and transport will rely upon from sustainable resources. Working with a range of industry stakeholders, including the City of Edinburgh Council, Ian is ensuring that the electricity network will be ready to support the many opportunities that Smart Networks and decarbonisation of our economy will provide.
